Family Mini Sessions | The H Family

I have a beautiful family mini session to share today! This poor blog of mine has been neglected, and I’m still working to get caught up (always!). This session is from fall 2020, and it was such a fun family photo session! The leaves were at their peak and were beautiful colors. We did this session at my favorite Raleigh park. The kids were just adorable and were so loving to each other. I enjoyed witnessing the great relationship the kids had with each other – so much love and adoration from little sister for her big brother! So many favorite moments from this session!

Looking for the best baby photographer in Raleigh? Precious baby girl Riley came into my Wake Forest newborn studio at 2.5 weeks old. She is the first baby to my son’s soccer coach, so this family was a special one to me! She has the most beautiful blonde hair, which was no surprise, as both of her parents are blonde. It was so fluffy and had a mind of its own, though, which made me laugh. Her mommy requested pinks, so of course, I made that happen. She’s a gorgeous baby, with great cheeks and the most perfect chub rolls! I enjoyed my time in the studio with her and her family and captured so many great poses and angles that show off her beauty. Top 5 Baby Poses For Your Next Newborn Photo Session!

Top 5 Baby Poses For Newborn Photo Session

Before each newborn photo session, I always touch base with my clients to see what poses, setups, colors, etc. they’d like for their session. We always work together to bring the client’s ideas to life. I often find people trying to explain a pose to me that they love. Little do most people know that the newborn photography world actually has names for each pose! So I thought I’d put together a little cheat sheet for clients of the top five most popular poses that I get asked for. This way you can reference here and have a name for that pose you love!

1. The Froggy Pose – yes, can you believe this one is named Froggy? I don’t know who in the photography industry first came up with this (or why!), but that’s truly the name for this pose. By far, this is my most requested pose. I typically start each session with this pose to make sure we get the shot. I appreciate this pose because it’s a great way to show off a baby’s face.

And of course, I love a side angle shot of this same froggy pose too!

2. The “Bum Up” Pose – this one is pretty self-explanatory, because that cute little baby bum gets a boost up in the air! This is a really classic shot that most newborn photographers, no matter their skill level, should be able to achieve.

One thing I love about this pose is how much you can switch it up. Add a pair of pants or an outfit, a soft little wrap, and it looks totally different. Super-versatile!

3. Taco Pose – this is another hilariously named pose for newborns. I’m not sure how it got the name Taco, except maybe the body folded in half and feet rolled… it’s a stretch, so I don’t know! Taco happens to be one of my favorites because the toes just look soooo stinking cute to me in this pose!

4. The Tucked-In Pose – this pose is just the sweetest! One of my favorites (have I said that about every pose?!? Well, I love them all and I can’t help it!). I just love how natural and simple this pose is. And of course, it can be switched up by adding in some props, cute hats and headbands, and different colors.

And I love that we can achieve this pose in a prop as well!

5. The Side-Laying Pose – this pose is really simple and such a classic. Great for boys and girls, and always looks really lovely.

One of my favorite modifications to this pose is to add a teeny little pillow for the baby to snuggle. Oh, my heart!

Newborn Photographer | Baby Cooper

Introducing sweet little Cooper! He and his big brother were absolutely darling. I was happy to have them visit me for a Raleigh newborn portrait session. Cooper was about three weeks old when I met him, and boy was he perfect! Check out those cheeks! He was squishy and smiley, and such a handsome little guy. And his big brother was such a delight and so good with baby Cooper. They posed so sweetly together, and we were able to capture so many fantastic moments as memories for their family. I couldn’t believe how many times Cooper smiled during his photo session. Over and over again! My favorite smile was the shot with his brother gazing down on him – look for that photo down below. Cooper’s smile is so big, I couldn’t believe it. I took so many great shots of him – from the beloved “froggy” pose (immediately below on the left), to the macro (aka close-up) photos, to the myriad of sibling shots, to the bucket shots, to the snuggly, wrapped-up photos. So many amazing ones! This was such a great baby session, and I hope to see little Cooper for more photos as he grows up.

And for reference, this newborn session was a “Full” session, which is 2-3 hours of photoshoot time. All of my newborn sessions include the use of my huge prop supply – from blankets, hats, wraps, buckets, baskets, etc. – I have it all! And I have a tendency to deliver a lot more photos than promised… there always end up being a lot more great shots than expected. After having done this job for ten years, it’s become second nature and I can go quickly through the setups and photos while keeping the baby safe and calm.

Wake Forest Newborn Photographer | Baby Abigail

This scrumptious little baby is Abigail. Her parents have come to me for all three of their baby girls! And they drive SO FAR to come to have their newborn portraits done. I’m so honored and happy they’ve chosen me time after time. I’ve enjoyed getting to know them and meeting each of their sweet little girls. Abigail’s big sisters were so adorable with her, and I loved their sibling photos, along with their family photos. We had such a good time!

At each of this family’s newborn sessions, the Mom has requested green and purple for their setups. These colors are really special to this family because they were Mom and Dad’s wedding colors. I was happy to oblige each and every time. And each of their baby girls got outdoor shots, which are always my favorite! I’m glad Mom always delivered her babies during warmer months so we could make that happen with some nice green grass and leaves. Durham Newborn Photos | Baby Ivy

Oh, how precious baby Ivy was for her first photoshoot! I was so excited to meet her when she was a fresh little two weeks old. She came into my Wake Forest baby studio and was such a pleasure! Her mom requested a shot in my little grey bed prop, and Ivy was nice enough to cooperate perfectly for it. She had a great sleepy stretch and then was awake for some eyes-wide-open shots. I’ve found that the awake shots are always some of the most popular photos by the parents, especially when they make that beautiful eye contact. Just precious! Ivy was so dainty and perfect and I loved each and every setup I did with her. So many great photos for her Mommy to have as a memory of her first two weeks. These are going to make for beautiful art in their home.

Another precious baby girl! This is adorable little Dani. As you’ll see below, she has two adoring big brothers who are going to have so much fun with her. I can’t even imagine having two big brothers watching out for me. Dani is a lucky girl, and nobody better mess with her! Dani’s mom requested pinks, teals, and yellows. She wanted a really colorful newborn photo session, so that’s what she got! All of my sessions are tailored towards what my client wants. I usually ask for color preferences before the session, and then style everything based on that. I have a HUGE collection of props. Headbands, hats, wraps, blankets, cute little outfits, buckets, baskets, etc. etc. Tons to work with so each session is unique and fits your personality.

Raleigh Durham Newborn Photography

I have a sweet little boy to share with you today. He has the best head of hair! I so enjoyed my time posing him and giving him some snuggles – this was pre-COVID of course! 🙂 He was absolutely stunning on some darker colors. The green was just gorgeous with his skin tone, as well as the dark blue, which ended up being my favorite. So much variety in his Raleigh newborn photo session, and just too many favorites!

Raleigh’s Best Baby Photographer | Baby Blythe

I’m happy to show off sweet baby Blythe to you all! She’s a beautiful baby with a beautiful name!

I met Blythe’s parents years back when I did maternity photos when they were expecting their first baby. And then I had the pleasure of having them in my Raleigh newborn photography studio when they delivered their first baby, Landis. I was so excited for them to be having another baby girl! And so excited to meet baby Blythe. She looks a lot like her big sister, and I could feel the love between the two of them. Landis held baby Blythe so sweetly and was super adoring of her. It was really touching to see.

Blythe’s newborn photo session was just amazing. She posed so beautifully, and all of my little hats and headbands looked adorable on her. I loved her on the pink and cream, and especially in my little baby bed. So many favorites from this Raleigh newborn session!
