Oh what a sweet one I have to share with you today! I was so happy to be chosen as this sweet family’s Durham baby photographer. Little baby Josephine was such a darling. So beautiful, and an excellent sleeper!

Newborn Photographer Chapel Hill | Baby Girl Laney

Today I want to share some of the beautiful newborn portraits from baby girl Laney’s photo session, and I’m also going to cover some helpful items you’ll need to bring to your baby’s newborn photo session.

Baby Laney was so adorable and perfect for her Chapel Hill newborn photo session. Wait until you see her beautiful eyelashes, and stunning skin! Her mama requested jewel tones like ruby red. I love getting to use these gorgeous colors for newborn photos! They were such a nice complement to Laney’s skin tones. I just love the variety of props and poses that I was able to achieve for baby Laney’s portraits!

For those planning their baby’s newborn photography session, there are a few things that are so essential in helping this run smoothly. First, I always request parents bring along a pacifier, even if their baby hasn’t used one yet. Babies have a natural sucking reflex, and it helps to soothe and relax them. It’s SO important in soothing babies into those cute little poses! And second, a way to feed baby is necessary while you’re in the newborn photo studio. For those moms who aren’t nursing, please bring along a bottle. Often we do have to pause partway through a photo session for baby to feed, since they eat so often!

Other than these items, I have everything else we’ll need! I always keep a full supply of diapers, wipes, burp cloths, snacks for hungry moms… it’s all provided! 🙂

Today we’re sharing another newborn “mini” photo session in Melissa’s Wake Forest photo studio. This cute baby girl is named Love! Such a unique and fitting name for her, as she is so very loved by her sweet parents! She was a precious little angel for her Raleigh newborn photo session. She looked so beautiful in all the pinks, purples, and creams!

This baby girl’s mama followed all of Melissa’s tips to get baby Love sleepy before her photo session, and she also came with a belly full of milk. So baby Love slept peacefully while Melissa worked through a lot of different props and sleepy poses. We managed to get so much variety in this one-hour mini portrait session! She looked adorable in the bucket, the wooden bowl, and in the little nakey poses on the blanket! Newborn Photographer Wake Forest | Baby Boy Photo Session

This family came to me last month in need of a newborn photographer for their new bundle of joy! This little guy preferred being wrapped up tight, which is how babies feel safe and secure. So I stuck with a lot of wrapped photos to keep him happy and peaceful, which did the trick! I always try for a mix of both, and this little guy was mostly only happy wrapped up – it happens!

But I did pull off a few of the naked poses at the very beginning before he started to get upset. His mom had asked for some green, as well as some blue. And she wanted a shot with the teddy bear, which turned out SO cute! The photos of babies snuggled with teddy bears are always among my favorites. The other favorite of mine is all the detail shots – the toes, the lips, the ears! Just absolutely precious, tiny little details, and I love capturing this for parents as their newborn photographer in Wake Forest.

Top 5 Baby Poses For Your Next Newborn Photo Session!

Top 5 Baby Poses For Newborn Photo Session

Before each newborn photo session, I always touch base with my clients to see what poses, setups, colors, etc. they’d like for their session. We always work together to bring the client’s ideas to life. I often find people trying to explain a pose to me that they love. Little do most people know that the newborn photography world actually has names for each pose! So I thought I’d put together a little cheat sheet for clients of the top five most popular poses that I get asked for. This way you can reference here and have a name for that pose you love!

1. The Froggy Pose – yes, can you believe this one is named Froggy? I don’t know who in the photography industry first came up with this (or why!), but that’s truly the name for this pose. By far, this is my most requested pose. I typically start each session with this pose to make sure we get the shot. I appreciate this pose because it’s a great way to show off a baby’s face.

And of course, I love a side angle shot of this same froggy pose too!

2. The “Bum Up” Pose – this one is pretty self-explanatory, because that cute little baby bum gets a boost up in the air! This is a really classic shot that most newborn photographers, no matter their skill level, should be able to achieve.

One thing I love about this pose is how much you can switch it up. Add a pair of pants or an outfit, a soft little wrap, and it looks totally different. Super-versatile!

3. Taco Pose – this is another hilariously named pose for newborns. I’m not sure how it got the name Taco, except maybe the body folded in half and feet rolled… it’s a stretch, so I don’t know! Taco happens to be one of my favorites because the toes just look soooo stinking cute to me in this pose!

4. The Tucked-In Pose – this pose is just the sweetest! One of my favorites (have I said that about every pose?!? Well, I love them all and I can’t help it!). I just love how natural and simple this pose is. And of course, it can be switched up by adding in some props, cute hats and headbands, and different colors.

And I love that we can achieve this pose in a prop as well!

5. The Side-Laying Pose – this pose is really simple and such a classic. Great for boys and girls, and always looks really lovely.

One of my favorite modifications to this pose is to add a teeny little pillow for the baby to snuggle. Oh, my heart!

Today I want to share cute little Miles with all of you! Miles was just six days old for his newborn photography session in Raleigh. He was perfection… the hair, the creamy baby skin, beautiful skin tone, amazing expressions. Oh, and a beautiful big sister to boot! The two were just precious together. It was my absolute pleasure to snuggle and photograph baby Miles and his big sister.
