We recently had the joy of capturing a brand new baby boy in the studio. This family holds a special place with us, as we also photographed their daughter when she was a newborn, six years ago. Including the Big Sister

One of the highlights of this session was incorporating the proud 6-year-old big sister. Sometimes getting a toddler to cooperate for photos can be a challenge, but at six years old, she was incredible. She was gentle, attentive, and clearly already in love with her new baby brother.

Capturing these sibling relationships is so important. These images are not just for the parents; they are a gift to the children as they grow up together. We love how the family portraits turned out, showcasing the new dynamic of four.

The Requested Bed Prop Setup

Parents often come to us with specific ideas they have seen in our portfolio. For this session, they specifically requested our miniature bed prop.

There is something undeniably precious about seeing a newborn swaddled tightly and resting in a tiny bed. It creates a cozy, narrative feel that contrasts beautifully with the baby’s delicate features. It was the perfect setup for this little guy, who looked so peaceful during this part of the session.

Neutrals, Green, and Light Blue

For the color palette, the family requested a serene mix of neutrals accented with touches of sage green and light blue. This combination is very popular in Durham, NC newborn photography right now, as it feels organic, calming, and timeless.

We used soft creams and textures as a base, layering in the subtle greens and blues through wraps, bonnets, and backdrop fabrics. The colors perfectly complemented the baby’s skin tone and the overall aesthetic of their home.

Focusing on Tiny Features

This baby boy had the most wonderful cheeks and a great head of hair. With such distinct features, we focused on capturing plenty of close-up details.

While we love using hats and bonnets, we made sure to leave his head uncovered for several setups to show off that beautiful hair. Furthermore, the photographer’s personal favorites from this gallery ended up being the artistic side profile shots. These images emphasize the tiny, perfect profile of a newborn and serve as a permanent reminder of just how small they once were.
